Years ago when I drove my XJ, that was a marvelous feature, fun to watch the layer of ice slide off while driving.

I feel so stupid, at first I forgot I had them, and was trying to figure out how to get the ice off. Then I spent quite a while trying to figure out how to turn them on (they are automatic).

My XJ has the mirror outline with bacon evaporating off them to indicate they are heated, activated by the rear defrost switch under the radio. But auto shut off I think after 15 minutes. Maybe they don't, it's more of a rocker switch than a button. Maybe my wife's Equinox auto shuts off, or maybe the metro stays on with button on.

I would love a rear wiper on metro though, the aero makes snow accumulate onto back glass & defroster won't keep up.

I feel like they should be standard equipment because it's a matter of safety.

Yeah I agree. Unfortunately you can buy even 80K cars where they make you add on a "cold weather kit".

The first car I ever had heated mirrors with was my '87 Vanagon. I didn't know I had them until the first freezing rain.

It's one of those things I didn't realize how I lived without. The ice, it melts.. the water, it evaporates.

BRILLIANT!
